Coping with grief

Each person experiences grief in their own way. From being initially shocked and numb, grief can progress to a point where you feel totally out of control. Sometimes you may even feel that you too would like to die. Very strong emotions are a normal part of grieving.

Your ability to effectively deal with grief depends on your willingness to accept and move through the emotions you are experiencing. There is no right way to deal with these emotions.

The methods that work for one person may not necessarily work for someone else. Sex, age and social environment will also influence how you deal with grief.

The purpose of this booklet is not to tell you how to react, but to help you and those around you to deal with some of the strong feelings you may experience. Support from people who can listen and accept strong reactions without making judgements or attempting to diminish the hurt, will be invaluable in the grieving process. The following information explains some/of the grieving process. The following information explains some of the emotions and stages you may face when grieving, such as; shock, guilt, anger, depression and provides some helpful tips.

It's important to remember that it takes time and nurturing to heal.
