Miro's Spanish Restaurant

Editorial Review

This vibrant eatery boasts the kind of atmosphere that would make its native country proud. It's best not to rely on a walk in table of a weekend evening.

Editorial Review

A good measure of an authentic restaurant is whether the local community eat there, so sitting in Miro's Spanish Restaurant surrounded by the soothing babble of native Spaniards bodes well for the forthcoming meal. Jose Garcia is the owner and chef of this establishment, which is set in a quaint, converted Queenslander boasting polished floorboards and a cosy ambience. The decor is simple, with black tablecloths offsetting the red wood furnishings and giving the place a Spanish feel. Seating indoors lends a view of Jose hard at work in the open kitchen, while outdoor candlelit tables offer a romantic setting on the covered veranda.

The menu is extensive and favours a tapas style of eating, although there are also mains to choose from and, for groups of six or more, a banquet option. From the tapas selection, start with the egana (fried bread with anchovies, capsicum, tomato and extra virgin olive oil) with delicious, melt-in-your-mouth roasted capsicum; followed by whole chargrilled sardines and chorizo served with rice. The gambas al pil pil (prawns in a hot and spicy sauce of peppers and tomato) is also a good choice and a glass of a Spanish red is the perfect accompaniment to a satisfying meal.
